CNC MACHINING CENTER OPERATOR II

 

SUMMARY

Set up, adjusts and checks out programming and operates numerically controlled machine tools to perform a complex series of progressive machining operations on repetitive work to close and exacting tolerances and finish specifications requiring considerable skill. Requires knowledge of machining techniques and methods and familiarity with computer numerically controlled machine tool operating procedures. Works from programming instructions, operational data and machine setup instructions defining and coding tool arrangements, material clamping methods, machine calibrations and console settings, for operations such as bore, mill, drill, face, thread and occasional profiling and contouring. Check parts for conformance to specification. Two to five year's experience required.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Meet requirements of CNC Machining Center Operator I.
  2. Set up machines following instructions contained in job process sheets.
  3. Perform first piece inspection at machine following written process. Supervisor will validate inspection results.
  4. Edit machine start position, tool offsets and cutter compensations as needed to maintain part process.
  5. Performs in process inspection of parts following written process sheets.
  6.  Changes and resets tools as needed to maintain process.
  7. Observes machine performance and reports to foreman any abnormalities.
  8. Ensure proper handling of both raw material and finished goods.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Communicate effectively with opposite shift operators either in writing or verbally.
  2. Working knowledge of machine controls.
  3. Ability to set up and use basic gauging and measuring equipment.
  4. Ability to interpret inspection results.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work may require evening and weekend work.
