CNC MACHINING CENTER OPERATOR III

 

SUMMARY

Set up, adjusts and checks out programming and operates numerically controlled machine tools to perform a complex series of progressive machining operations on a diversified line of work to close and exacting tolerances and finish specifications requiring a high degree of skill. Requires a broad knowledge of machining techniques and familiarity with computer numerically controlled machine tool operating procedures. Setups involve familiarity with and an understanding of program formats involving combinations of operations such as profile and contour milling, boring, recessing, turning, drilling, threading, etc. to the capacity of the machine and control factor. May set up machines for, and instruct operators. Check parts for conformance to specification. Requires five or more year's experience.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Meet requirements of CNC Machining Center Operator II.
  2. Perform machine set-ups for self and other operators. Typically these set-ups are of a more complex and difficult nature than those performed by CNC Machining Center Operator II
  3. Make sure paperwork is in the correct version and revision for job being set up. 
  4. Make program edits/additions as instructed by supervisor.
  5. Perform first piece inspection at machine following written process. Make all adjustments to machine control and tooling as required to produce a valid first piece.
  6. When needed, assist other operators in performance of their duties.
  7. Correct and edit process sheets as needed.
  8. Work with programmers. Present ideas regarding tooling and programming that will improve the process and make a better product.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Good verbal and oral communication skills.
  2. Solid basic math skills plus basic geometry skills.
  3. Firm understanding of machine functions and operations.
  4. Knowledge of machine program codes.
  5. Knowledge of cutting tools and their proper application.
  6. Knowledge of inspection methods and ability to interpret and act on results. Able to write an inspection procedure for simple parts (supervisor approved)
  7. Able to read blueprints.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work may require evening and weekend work.
